European and Swiss nationals do not need a visa to stay in Mauritius, however their stay may not exceed a maximum duration of 3 months subject to conditions.
It is possible to apply for an extension of your stay at the Passport and Immigration Office of Mauritius. The extension cannot exceed 3 months (3 months + 3 months) for a total duration of 6 months. It is valid for a period of 1 year.
It is forbidden to work with a dependency permit. However, you can apply for a Work Permit from the employer who wants to hire you.
Note that the salary of a foreign national must not be less than Rs 30,000 (~750 €).
If, however, you wish to set up your own business, you will have to choose between a Self-Employed Work Permit or an Investor Permit.

Your residence permit can be issued in 2 weeks in the best of cases and in 8 weeks in longer cases.
Please note that this period may be extended if your file is incomplete.
Your residence permit begins on the day it is issued. If it was issued to you on August 1, 2018, it will be valid until July 31, 2021. Regardless of the date you move in, only the date of issue of the permit is valid.
The Occupation Permit is a residence permit which also allows you to carry out a professional activity in Mauritius.
The Work Permit is applied for by the employer for a foreign national between the ages of 20 and 60 who has the qualifications and skills required for the position offered.
