Among the founders of Visa Mauritius, we are two expatriates who have lived through the long process of the residence permit between the moment when the project is matured and the moment when it becomes a reality. This is our experience that we put at your service.
There are mainly 3 ways to obtain permanent residence. You apply for a residence permit to invest in Mauritius, to retire or to purchase a property. The first two ways are detailed in the boxes below.
Real estate investment in Mauritius under the RES or PDS regime allows you to obtain fiscal residence as soon as you acquire the property. Buying a villa in Mauritius or an apartment in a luxury residence remains the solution chosen by many retired people. By owning a villa, you are no longer subject to the obligation to have a monthly income of 2500 USD required by the EDB for pensioner’s permits.
It is important to note that the residence permit is attached to your property. If you sell your property, you are no longer eligible for tax residence in Mauritius.
However, obtaining the residence permit is only possible for properties with a minimum value of US$ 500, 000.
